DON'T GO ALONE, IT'S ALWAYS SAFER
TO SWIM WITH A BUDDY AND CHECK IN OFTEN
Check the Weather, Calm days are ideal so check for Sun, wind and rain.
Check Wind and Wave conditions, Low wind speeds and small wave heights (under 1 meter) are best.
Slack tide (just before or after high or low tide) often offers the calmest water.
Pay attention and respect signage on the beach, Green flag = safe, yellow = caution, red = dangerous, purple = marine life warning (like jellyfish). This Can vary depending on the beach.

01.
WADE IN WAIST DEEP
CARRY YOUR FINS IN YOUR HANDS
Wade in the water wearing your mask and snorkel. Find a calm spot to put on your fins. Stay with your buddy for balance.
02.
DO A FRONT FLOAT
PRACTICE YOUR BREATHING
Place your face underwater and practice breathing through your snorkel. Initially, your heart rate will increase, this is natural. Snorkel in shallow water until you are comfortable.

03.
FIND A LANDMARK
MAKE A PLAN
Scan the horizon for a landmark. An outcropping of rocks. Select a time frame and track it.
04.
SNORKEL WITH TURTLES
EXPLORE THE OCEAN
Slowly explore the underwater universe. You're snorkeling. Be sure not to disturb the fish and keep your feet off the reef.

05.
CONNECT OFTEN
CHECK IN WITH ONE ANOTHER
Meet at the surface of the ocean to swap stories. Stick together during your next snorkeling adventure. Snorkeling is always the most fun and safe with a peer.
06.
RETURN TO SHORE
CREATE A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE
Land back on shore in your good-looking snorkel mask. High five. You did it! Drink some water and enjoy more sun! (with sunscreen and always a full suit of snorkeling).
